Flow-type landslides Impacting V-shaped Diversions: Physical Modelling

چکیده
In rural and sparsely populated areas, government issued pamphlets often recommend the construction of V-shaped diversions to protect personal property from flow-type landslides hazards, including debris flows. are advantageous because they attract low impact forces runup heights due their oblique angle. However, current design approaches empirical, so it is unclear what resisting wall required. this extended abstract, details a new experimental setup some preliminary results presented. It envisioned that findings study will help shed light on scientific-based recommendations enhance resiliency mountain communities globally.

Resistance to Flow in a V-Shaped Bottom Channel
Water flow in open channels is always subject to the resistance to flow and energy dissipation. For design purposes, one of the needed variables is the hydraulic resistance coefficient. For this mean, the influence of cross-sectional shape together with secondary flow cells and lateral distribution of true boundary shear stress have not yet been fully explored. This paper surveys the number of ...
متن کاملModelling Combined Subaerial-Subaqueous Flow-Like Landslides by Cellular Automata
Macroscopic Cellular Automata characterize a methodological approach for modelling large scale (extended for kilometres) complex acentric phenomena, e.g. surface flows as lava flows, debris flows etc.. This paper concerns the extension of such a method in order to simulate combined subaerial-subaqueous flow-like landslides. The occurrence of heterogeneous interacting processes requires a more p...

potential to adversely affect the recreational, aesthetic, and ecological resources of mountain streams. The ability to predict channel response to flow diversion can help project designers minimize adverse impacts and design appropriate mitigation measures. Toward this end, we use insights gained from detailed case studies of Lake Fork and Rock Creek – two diverted streams in the Uinta Mountai...
متن کاملCellular Automaton for Realistic Modelling of Landslides
A numerical model is developed for the simulation of debris flow in landslides over a complex three dimensional topography. The model is based on a lattice, in which debris can be transferred among nearest neighbors according to established empirical relationships for granular flows. The model is then validated by comparing a simulation with reported field data. Our model is in fact a realistic...
